Social Anxiety Disorder - How to Overcome It
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before you start going through this website - This is to let everyone know that I have started a daily blog of techniques I am using to overcome social anxiety. Also - you'll see that I am using different techniques to try and overcome my anxieties. So you might want to take a look at my Social Anxiety Blog. So please stop by and read what I'm up too.
This is a website for people that are trying to overcome social anxiety. I was diagnosed with social anxiety back in 1994 - one year before I was married. Fortunately for me, I was taking Xanax, which is a medication that calms the mind and body. However, over period of time - I became addicted to it, but that's another story. I will eventually talk about that.
Before 1994, I knew I had some type of social anxiety disorder since I couldn't speak that well in meetings at work. In college, I was scared beyond belief in being called on in class. There was no way I could speak in front of a group of people (even though I did struggle to get through a speech class that was required). In my teen-age years, I always had problems talking to people. I suffered from shyness and also had the same problem that I did in college - I couldn't speak in a class room setting. My symptoms were my neck muscles twitching, causing my head to shake. My face would start to prespire and I would develop other forms of social anxiety symptoms such as panic attacks.
There was one bright spot along the way. I used meditation (or what some call self-hypnosis) in order to overcome some social anxiety disorders. What I would do was I would sit down on a couch, breathe deeply for a few minutes and then imagine myself confronting various anxieties. This would help to a degree, but overtime, I would find other ways in conquering my social anxiety disorder and lead a somewhat normal life.
There would be other things such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that would be a pain in my rear - but I learned to overcome that as well. All kinds of social anxieties have attacked me - but I'm here to say that I'm still standing.
There were other social anxiety symptoms that I would encounter such as OCD, worries and a strong dependence on benzo type medications such as Xanax and then Klonopin. I am here today to tell everyone though - how I conquered most of social anxiety disorder through various means and my faith. However, I still suffer through some anxieties, but I'm a lot better than I was five, ten, or twenty years ago. I just continue getting better as time goes on and I'm here to help others who have the same problems that I did - overcome them.
I hope this website helps you. There are techniques that I still use today in overcoming fear of people or anything that deals with social type anxieties. I have a contact page in where you can e-mail me your problems. Though, sometimes it may take a while to help you (or e-mail you back) since there are so many people that have social anxiety.
Anyway, feel free to take a look around my website that I built for people like you - and hopefully, you will discover a way to overcome your social anxieties and fears of social situations. The right hand side of this website will show you how to overcome social anxieties while the left side is more about what social phobia or anxiety (with its' symptoms) is all about. I wish you the best of luck!
