What Causes Social Anxiety?
So what does cause social anxiety? One of the reasons is Biological. I have been a shy person all of my life – and when I was around thirteen, I started noticing that I was different from the other kids. I was very reserved whereas others were usually outward. I did have friends, but noticed that I wanted to be more and more alone.
Fast forward years later and my wife and I had Karrington, our only child – I noticed that when she was three years old, she would shy away from other children. For an example, we would take her to soccer practice and she wouldn’t “dive in” to get the ball from other children, but noticed she would wait until nobody was around the ball then attempt to take a kick. However, if another child would run up to kick the ball, she would back away.
Other things such as choir practice or other events, it was hard for her to make friends. We would teach her to ask other little girls if they wanted to be friends with her OR maybe play with someone – it seemed very tough for her to do. She wasn’t even past the age of four and I saw traits of being shy popping up. No doubt that she inherited this “disease” from me.
Now all this can be overcome. However, it can take months or even years. There is no magic bullet or potion to take that you can overcome immediately. There is something called EFT in which people can claim to overcome in a matter of minutes – but I’ve tried it, and it doesn’t work. So much for quick fixes.
I know I have written this on a personal note – but sometimes it’s better than writing in a text book format. There is nothing like going through something where you can help other people. I have determined to spread the word of how to overcome social anxiety and in the future – I will have videos, detailing various ways to confront shyness, OCD and general social anxiety. As far as the website itself – it will grow on a daily basis and will eventually become a “mega site” for people in need of overcoming their fears.
