Eating Right to Overcome Social Anxiety
Eating right can be one of the keys to overcoming social anxiety. Though it will not dissolve it by itself, eating right can give you energy (like exercise) to face the symptoms of social anxiety. Also - your mind will become more clear and have better judgement when you conquer your fears.
The type of food that I am beginning to eat often is sweet potatoes. This is chalked full of vitamins and from what I have heard - this is the best food to eat in order to prevent cancer. Personally, I think the jury is still out on this - but that is what the scientiest have said at the latest. So we'll see what happens down the road.
With that said, you should eat balanced meals every day. I know that sounds more like a cliche, but it really is true. You need a "balanced" energy to fight social anxiety. Believe me, when you fight social anxiety disorders, you will need every "weapon" you can get. Food is the source of energy and is excellent in overcoming mental diseases like this.
One of my studies with food is that one bodybuilder, who claims that eating the proper food is more important than lifting weights, has one junk day per week. So in other words, eat like a saint for six days but for one day, you can eat like the devil. I'm not sure if I advise this, but if it works for you - then do it. However, before taking my advice about eating certain foods - just like every other page on this site (and for legal reasons) - before you take my advice, please see your doctor concerning what type of foods you should eat.
Here is a list of foods that I usually eat:
- Granola
- Sweet Potatoes (the so called anti-cancer food - has a lot of vitamins)
- grain foods
- Steak (I eat this every now and then for extra protein since I lift weights (protein builds muscles))
- Fruit - A very good food to give you energy to fight social anxiety
- Vegetables - Another good source for energy to fight your social anxiety disorders
- Chicken
- Salmon or just plain fish (this is usually referred to as brain food)
- Unsalted Almonds - personally, I have experienced energy from eating this
- Whole Wheat Pastas and Breads - this could give you a short-term energy to fight social anxiety
One last note - vitamin D is a great source for mental health. If you are experiencing fatigue and depression, often doctors will check vitamin D levels (especially in women) to see if you are depleted of it. If so, then you can take a vitamin D supplement (that can be found at any health food store such as GNC or even in Walmart). Vitamin D can also be found in Milk products as well as spending time in the natural sunlight.
